The Rotary Club of Salisbury (SA) recognises that the transition to school/study maybe a costly time for a young person’s family. A smooth transition is critical for a young person to create a strong learning foundation at their new high school or adult learning environment. To address this, the Goodall Youth Scholarship was established during 2018/19. This scholarship memorialises our late Charter Member, Alan Goodall, his late wife, Betty Goodall, and the late Brian Goodall, a Club Member and esteemed Salisbury Councillor. The Patron is Mrs Kaye Goodall.
Purpose:
The purpose of the fund is to make several small scholarship grants ($300 per scholarship in 2022) each year to young people at critical education transition points (e.g., moving from a primary school to a different high school or from secondary school to a university or TAFE/RTO) or experiencing family hardship.
The relative need for support will be a key factor in considering an application, and each application needs to include a referral from a school or key worker. Applications open each year, and grants are provided to the young person before they start at their new place of learning.
Each grant will be made in a manner that benefits the young person the most. Our grants can be used for school uniforms, study resources, travel assistance, etc.
Governance:
The scholarship fund will be overseen by the Rotary Club of Salisbury’s Youth Service Team and supported by all members.
We will:
- Manage a system of fair application and ensure the scholarship fund is available to assist in making a positive contribution to a young person’s successful transition into study.
- Run at least one fundraising event each year to raise money (of which half will be used for grant scholarships and the other half used to develop the fund’s capital base).
- Ensure the scholarship fund receives public support and positive recognition through the Rotary Club of Salisbury (SA).
- Report quarterly to the Club Board about the progress of the scholarships and the fundraising.
